May is Older Americans Month and we are honored to serve many seniors in our community like Ken. For retired folks, living on a fixed income is hard in an economy with not-so-fixed costs constantly fluctuating, and often times with added medical bills on top of everything else. Last year, Ken found himself in a difficult place in his life when his wife became seriously ill. We’re so glad to be able to support folks like Ken with access to free, nutritious foods for their families.

We're thinking of all moms this Mother's Day. Midori is a mother and a student at Temple College, working hard to meet her children's needs and pursue her own goals of becoming a nurse.

A spotlight on Harvest Blessing Food Pantry and all the amazing work they have been able to accomplish with the support of the capacity building grant they received from us last year. We’re honored to serve as their partner.

Volunteering in one form or another since she was 12 years old, Cheryl finds herself re-energized after each shift with the Food Bank, which she commits to twice a week. We appreciate Cheryl’s service, in particular to our rural mobile distributions where she often volunteers each week!

We’re honored to spotlight one of our amazing Partner Agencies this week: Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry. With support from one of our capacity building grants, they have been able to implement numerous changes to their “small but mighty” organization, which have resulted in many positive outcomes.

The quiet time away from work, an opportunity to learn something new, and the tangible experience of sowing and harvesting vegetables are some of Alex’s favorite things about volunteering in the garden. We are grateful to Alex for giving back each week in the garden in support of our mission to fight hunger!

With a heart for giving back, Debra, a retired teacher, continues to find ways to stay active in her community and connect with her neighbors by volunteering regularly in the kitchen. Thank you for your dedication to fighting hunger, Debra!
