Feedback | Summer 2015

Message from CEO

When summertime rolls around, most of us look forward to vacations and lots of sun and fun. But once the warm weather hits, the Capital Area Food Bank prepares to nourish more clients than it does during the rest of the year.

Why? Every week, nearly 46,000 food insecure Central Texans turn to our Partner Agencies and mobile food pantries for food, and that number increases in the summer when children don’t have access to school lunch.

Some clients, like Gloria, only turn to local food pantries when they know their children will be home and need extra food to stay energized in the sweltering heat. With 1 in every 4 Central Texas children at risk of hunger, the Food Bank is committed and prepared to step in and provide for our youth who should not miss enjoying summer because they are hungry.

I’m always amazed to see the Food Bank team working day in and out with our nearly 300 Partner Agencies to meet the needs of our clients. Hunger is not an individual issue but a community issue, and I’m even more amazed by how our community comes together to support the Food Bank programs and campaigns all designed to help our friends and neighbors in need.

The Food Bank could not be as successful as it is without the generous support of donors who have a hand in solving the problems our community faces. Every donation helps thousands of Central Texans access healthy food when they need it the most. Thank you for always supporting our services and ensuring all families have a nourished summer.
