Music Fans Help Fight Hunger in Central Texas

21st annual Austin Reggae Fest is the number one event helping families experiencing hunger in Central Texas

One of the traditional rites of spring for thousands of Central Texas music lovers, the annual Austin Reggae Festival, returns for its 21st year, from Friday April 18 through Sunday, April 20. Every year, Austin Reggae brings three days of music and fun to the community while making a big impact in the fight against hunger by supporting local nonprofit Capital Area Food Bank.

The 21st annual Reggae Fest will be better than ever. The festival has relocated from Auditorium Shores across the street to Butler Park and features one of the best music line-ups in reggae music history. The Austin Reggae Fest is a tradition benefitting the Food Bank and organized by Hugh Forrest, Director of the SXSW Interactive Festival. Forrest’s passion and support for the Food Bank is a part of his commitment to making Austin a great place to live.

The support of the Austin Reggae Fest comes at a critical time for the Food Bank. A recent study published by United Way for Greater Austin Navigation Center shows that the top requests for assistance via 2-1-1 in the greater Austin area were for hunger relief. This report confirms what the Capital Area Food Bank has long known: hunger is the number one issue impacting our community.

Tickets to Austin Reggae Fest are just $15 per day, or $40 for a 3 day pass if purchased in advance. Visit www.austinreggaefest.com to purchase advance tickets. Gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and the park closes at 10 p.m. every day. A portion of the admission fee benefits the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB). Although additional donations are not required for entry, CAFB volunteers will be on hand to collect your non-perishable food items and cash.

Last year alone, the event raised 630,000 meals for Central Texas families struggling with hunger, making this event the number one event helping families experiencing hunger in Central Texas. Reggae Fest is a great way to hear some fantastic music and have fun while fighting hunger in our community
