Supporting Children and Families Through Summer Meals and Community Partnerships

Jun19

During the summer months, Central Texas families face higher grocery bills, increased childcare costs, and the loss of school-provided meals. For children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches during the academic year, summer can create additional challenges for families working to keep nutritious food on the table.

The Central Texas Food Bank's (CTFB's) Summer Meals program helps fill that gap by providing free meals for children throughout the summer months. National Summer Food Service Programs like these help ensure children continue to have access to nutritious food while school is out, giving families one less thing to worry about during an already busy time of year.

Making programs like this possible requires a community of supporters, including corporate and philanthropic partners committed to strengthening food access throughout Central Texas. One of those partners is Chick-fil-A.

Investing in Children and Families

Since 2024, Chick-fil-A has contributed more than $300,000 to CTFB through store opening gifts and support provided through Feeding America.

These investments help strengthen programs that connect children and families with nutritious food while supporting broader hunger relief efforts across the region.

Created to honor the legacy of Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A's philanthropic efforts focus on helping children and families access the resources they need to thrive. Through support for food access, education, and community well-being, the organization works to help create opportunities for children regardless of their circumstances.

This commitment aligns closely with the CTFB's mission to connect families with the food and resources they need today while helping build stronger futures for tomorrow.

Why Summer Meals Matter

School meals provide a reliable source of nutrition throughout the school year. When summer arrives, and cafeterias close, some families must stretch already tight budgets to cover additional meals at home.

The Summer Meals program helps address this challenge by providing free prepared breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children through partnerships with camps and summer programming sites, and by delivering meal boxes in rural areas where summer programming may not exist.

By helping children maintain access to nutritious food, summer meal programs support healthy development while helping families navigate one of the most expensive times of the year.

The Role of Community Partnerships

Behind every meal distributed is a coordinated effort involving food sourcing, transportation, volunteers, nonprofit community partners, and financial support from individuals, foundations, and businesses.

Flexible funding from corporate and philanthropic partners allows CTFB to respond to changing community needs, invest in critical infrastructure, and support programs designed to reach specific populations, including children and families.

Corporate partnerships play an important role in strengthening the hunger relief network throughout Central Texas. Investments from businesses help support food sourcing, meal production, volunteer engagement, and programs that connect neighbors with nutritious food year-round.

Partnerships like Chick-fil-A's demonstrate how community investment can help create lasting impact for children and families across the region.

A Shared Commitment to Community

We are grateful for Chick-fil-A's continued investment in Central Texas and their commitment to supporting children and families through meaningful, sustained giving.

As food assistance needs continue throughout our region, partnerships like these help ensure more children have access to nutritious meals and more families can find support when they need it most.

Together, we are helping build a stronger, healthier future for Central Texas.
