While Laura Wilkerson had been known for her positive attitude and her persuasive manner, she was most known as the ultimate foodie who enjoyed putting food in the hands of others.

November 10 marks a year since Laura’s passing, and in her honor, her Freescale colleagues volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank to mark that anniversary.

“We thought about things that mattered most to her, and we thought of the Food Bank,” said Stephanie Sobotik, Laura’s colleague. “It happens to be a good time especially since so many people rely on the Food Bank during the holidays.”

Laura worked at Freescale for 15 years as the global marketing and communications manager. Sobotik said Laura was a great leader who always had a smile on her face and talked a mile a minute.

“I don’t know how to put it into a couple of words,” Sobotik said. “We miss everything about her.”

Liz Bullington not only saw Laura as a mentor, but as a friend. The two lived on the same street, which enabled them to work closely at and outside of work.

“She was not only a great boss, she was a really great friend,” Bullington said. “She was wicked smart, incredibly bright and a perfectionist at everything, but in a good way. … She always thought of her team as a family, and you always felt like she had your back.”

Although Mireille Maury no longer works for Freescale, she joined everyone at the volunteer shift to honor “the most giving person.”

“We were all shocked and saddened with her passing, and this is a way to come together in her honor and do something good,” Maury said. “She was very mindful of others, and I think volunteering to help those in need is something she would have loved to do.”

Maury said it had become a tradition for Laura’s team to volunteer for a local nonprofit organization, and taking a shift at the Food Bank was a perfect way to honor her.

“We’re continuing what she started and coming together to remember her legacy,” Maury said.
