It’s time to get your blood pumping in a fast-paced and energetic game of basketball to raise consciousness for colon cancer. March is Colon Cancer Rectal Month, and the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation will kick off their “Kick and Roll Open Gym” tour on March 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the University of Texas at Austin at Clark Field. The event is a free, sneaker-themed, five-on-five basketball event that encourages a healthy lifestyle.
Everyone is welcomed to attend, but only the first 100 people to register will be able to play in the Open Gym sessions. Though the event is free, to promote consciousness that one of the biggest risk factors for colon cancer is poor diet, participants are required to bring at least two healthy vegetable or fruit canned donation. The player that brings the most canned goods will receive a prize at the end of the event. All donations collected will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank to help provide healthy nutritious meals for hungry families in Central Texas.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the event. Sport your best shoes on the court and you could win a prize for Shoe MVP or for MVP of the day. Don’t forget that this is a sneaker-themed event. Participants are encouraged to wear blue shoelaces in support of Kiel’s #BlueKnots initiative for Colon Cancer Awareness Month.
