Austin Mayor Declares April 1st "April Food Day"

Mar27

It’s been six months since we’ve launched the 10x10 Campaign for a Hunger-Free Community. The community’s response to help us build our new 135,000-square-foot facility has been incredible, and we are commemorating our new milestone in the campaign with a groundbreaking ceremony on what is now known as "April Food Day".

At the March 36 Austin City Council meeting, Mayor Steve Adler recognized the importance of this new resource for Central Texas by issuing a proclamation.

“The groundbreaking of our new distribution facility is a monumental step in closing the hunger gap in our community, where the percentage of Central Texans who are hungry or at risk of hunger is growing at nearly double the rate of the overall population,” said Hank Perret, President and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. “We are unable to meet the growing demand simply because we don’t have the space to store food or the means to deliver and distribute it. The new facility, with more than double the space of our current warehouse, is a game changer in the fight against hunger.”

Yes, we’re moving! If you know anyone looking for a great space in South Austin, give us a call.
