Annual MLK Day March and Food Drive

For years, the Austin community gathers to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior by uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our community at an annual march and rally. The march begins on Monday, January 20 at 9:00 A.M. at the University of Texas at Austin near the MLK statue on the East Mall and continues through downtown Austin to ends with a community festival at Huston-Tillotson University. The festival kicks off at at 11:15 A.M. and will last until 3:30 P.M.This year's celebration includes vendors and live music.  As your head to the march, don't forget to bring healthy, non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank.  Look for our white donation boxes at both campuses.

Don't know what to donate? Consider our list of most requested food items:

  • peanut butter
  • canned chicken breast or tuna
  • canned low sodium vegetables
  • canned fruit in its own juice (no sugar added)
  • dry pinto beans
  • brown rice
  • non-fat dry milk powder
  • 100 percent whole grain cereal
