High-five, kudos, two thumbs up to our volunteer of the quarter, Ruth Kaplan

Q3 Volunteer Ruth 002 EDIT.jpg

Today, we celebrate Ruth Kaplan as our Volunteer of the Quarter. Ruth has volunteered with us for more than eight years, leading volunteers in the warehouse and representing the Food Bank at community events. Ruth is truly one of a kind and always brings a smile to the faces of staff and volunteers with her personality and charisma.

“Food is fundamental; it’s simple to volunteer and help sort items in a truly hands-on way to help people.”

-Ruth Kaplan

When the Memorial Day Weekend floods ravaged Central Texas, Ruth picked up several extra volunteer shifts each week to assist with our disaster response. For Ruth, helping out during this critical time was personal since she also experienced flood damages after the Onion Creek floods in 2013. She said she considered the disaster relief volunteer experience as part of her destiny to give back to an organization dear to her heart.

Ruth is always quick to jump in and help staff wherever they most need her and provide guidance to other volunteers. Staff fellow volunteers say there’s never a dull moment when working with Ruth.

“From greeting volunteers in the lobby, to sharing her knowledge of nuclear physics, costume-making and food safety, Ruth extends herself in every moment, in every breath,” said Ellen Weaver, Food Bank executive assistant.

Living by the motto, “Do what you can with what you have where you are,” Ruth said she believes everyone can “do their bit” to help their neighbors in need.

“Food is fundamental,” Ruth said. “It’s simple to volunteer and help sort items in a truly hands-on way to help people.”

Ruth, thank you for going above and beyond in your service to the Food Bank and for your dedication to ending hunger in Central Texas!
