Heath and Wellness

We believe that "Food is Medicine" and access to food and nutrition education is foundational to a healthy community.

Mother and child

Our Health + Wellness initiatives are designed to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and resources they need to lead healthier lives.

Recognizing the critical link between diet and health, our work integrates nutritious food into healthcare settings to manage and prevent chronic diseases. In partnership with organizations like CommUnityCare, we provide programs that allow healthcare providers to "prescribe" nutritious food, which patients can access through our services.

Community Nutrition Education

CTFB offers free, in-person nutrition education classes led by registered dietitians and wellness experts, hosted in partnership with community organizations across Central Texas. These interactive sessions cover topics like healthy eating, meal preparation, grocery shopping on a budget, and food safety, with hands-on activities and cooking demonstrations to help participants apply what they learn. Classes are available in English and Spanish and are designed to support individuals and families in building healthy, sustainable habits.

Mobile FARMacy

Through an innovative partnership with local health clinics, CTFB’s Mobile FARMacy program ensures patients receive the fresh, nutritious food they need to improve their health outcomes. Healthcare providers “prescribe” fresh foods, which patients can access right outside their clinic in our air-conditioned Mobile FARMacy. The FARMacy is stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and shelf-stable items that meet USDA MyPlate standards and are aligned with “Foods to Encourage.” Designed to provide a dignified grocery store experience, patients can shop for the foods prescribed to them immediately after their appointments, as well as receive benefits assistance and nutrition education.

Home Delivery Program

The Home Delivery Program is designed to bring nutritious food directly to individuals and families who face barriers to attending in-person food distributions. Through this program, participants receive a monthly box of groceries delivered to their doorstep — providing reliable access to food without the need to travel.

Each delivery includes a mix of shelf-stable items and fresh food, helping support households with consistent, practical resources they can use throughout the month. The program also connects participants to additional services, like SNAP enrollment support, to help strengthen long-term stability.

By meeting people where they are, the Home Delivery Program helps expand access to food while reducing common barriers like transportation, mobility, and time.
