We’re proud to share that the Central Texas Food Bank has been awarded Gold status in the USDA’s Turnip the Beet Awards for 2024, the highest level of recognition given to Summer Meal Program sponsors. Even more exciting, we were the only food bank in the nation to receive this honor this year.
The Turnip the Beet Award highlights the work of sponsors who go the extra mile to serve meals that are not only nutritious, but also appetizing, appealing and culturally appropriate. This means offering fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and local ingredients wherever possible, ensuring children have access to the high-quality meals they need to grow, learn and thrive.

Fueling Futures in Central Texas
While this award highlights the quality of our summer meals, it’s part of a much bigger story. Year-round, our Children’s Programs Team and Culinary Team work to provide nutritious food to kids in Central Texas through weekend meal packs, afterschool snacks, and community-based distributions.
At the Central Texas Food Bank, we believe every child deserves access to nutritious meals, no matter the season. This recognition from the USDA affirms what we know to be true: when we work together, we can help build a healthier, stronger future for the next generation.
Thank you to our team, partners, volunteers, and donors who make this work possible every day.
