Austin Bacon and Beer Festival to Benefit Central Texas Food Bank

  • Festival is Saturday, January 28th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at Brazos Hall
  • Tickets are still available
  • Festival has raised nearly 88,000 meals in its first three years

Austin, TX, January 11, 2017 – The Austin Bacon and Beer Festival returns on Saturday, January 28th, for its 4th year of showcasing bacon-centric food, prepared by bacon-loving chefs from Austin and Central Texas, and paired with craft brews. The event is produced by Edible Austin in partnership with Eat Boston and benefits the Central Texas Food Bank.

This year, the festival returns to downtown Austin and will run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Brazos Hall, 204 East 4th Street.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival go to the Food Bank, allowing them to provide meals to thousands of Central Texans facing hunger and helping to close a “hunger gap” that leaves nearly 30 percent of our neighbors who are at risk of hunger without food assistance in their time of need. Food Bank staff will also be on hand to collect donations of canned goods and cash. In its first three years, the Bacon and Beer Festival raised nearly 88,000 meals for Central Texans facing hunger.

“I can’t think of a better way to fight hunger in our community than by spending a Saturday afternoon at the Bacon and Beer Festival,” said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. “You can enjoy amazing bacon-themed food created by some of the best chefs around and some great craft beers, while helping the Food Bank refill our warehouse after the busy holiday season when our shelves tend to be a little bare.”

One in six Central Texans faces hunger on a regular basis; for children, the number is one in every four. And despite the Food Bank’s best efforts—more than 31 million meals provided last year—more people are turning for help to the Central Texas Food Bank and its Partner Agencies every day.

Tickets for the Bacon and Beer Festival can still be purchased at http://bit.ly/2imsrJS. Regular tickets are $47.00 each (plus service fee) and “Defend Bacon” tickets are $100.00 each (plus service fee). Regular tickets allow attendees to sample bacon and beer while “Defend Bacon” tickets include early entry at 12:30 p.m., bacon and beer samples, a festival T-shirt and a commemorative tasting glass.
