Stamp Out Hunger Impacts Central Texas Families

Jun02

On Stamp Out Hunger day, United States Postal Service letter carriers know to look for more than just stamped envelopes waiting at mailboxes. It’s a special day. The National Association of Letter Carriers becomes a large hunger fighting force for the nation’s largest one-day food drive.

Thanks to the support from the community, more than 26,000 pounds of food were collected in a single day!

It was easy for individuals to participate. All they had to do was grab a bag, fill it with non-perishable food items and place it by their mailbox to get picked up by their local letter carrier.  Though in the past bags were mailed to residents before the food drive, to reduce waste this year, individuals could use their own reusable bags. The reusable bags would then be passed along to our Partner Agencies for families to use during a food distribution. It was a win for all!

Though this year Stamp Out Hunger was a little different, we can’t thank our neighbors and letter carriers enough for always rallying behind the Food Bank to make a difference in the lives of families in need.
