Delivering Food and Hope: A Central Texas Driver’s 30-Year Journey

May08

This month, we’re proud to celebrate Frank Sanchez, a seasoned CDL-A Driver from our Transportation team, as our Team Member of the Month. With more than three decades behind the wheel and 10 years of dedicated service to the Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB), Frank brings both heart and horsepower to our mission of nourishing communities across Central Texas.

Frank got his start as a driver early in life, beginning with a local company in Austin that delivered to Taco Bell franchises. From there, he built a long career in commercial driving with positions at Pepsi and Coca-Cola, where he spent 15 years. When a friend and former colleague invited him to join a new program delivering food commodities to schools, Frank brought his experience in both logistics and customer service to CTFB.

Frank became part of the CTFB team during our time at the former Congress Avenue facility, well before the move to our current Metropolis Drive location.

“We used to work out of two docks, and I think we had maybe 10 drivers. It’s wild to see how far we’ve come.”

Today, our fleet has more than tripled, and Frank continues to embody the teamwork and reliability that define our culture. Though he has a regular route, he’s often called on to step in wherever he’s needed and is always ready to support his teammates and ensure that every delivery goes out smoothly. His deep knowledge of our routes and his willingness to go the extra mile reflect the service-minded spirit at the heart of CTFB.

Frank’s competitive spirit, first honed on the football field as a high school running back, now shows up in the pride he takes in his work behind the wheel. CTFB trucks are equipped with technology that tracks driving behavior — including speed, following distance and safety patterns — and Frank consistently earns high marks. He monitors his performance closely and takes personal responsibility for maintaining a top safety record, always pushing himself to improve and stay at the top of his game.

That focus on safety and consistency has served Frank well in more ways than one.

“I love what I do. I love serving the communities we work with,” he says. “Growing up, we worked out in the fields to provide for our family. Now I get to help families put food on the table. That means everything to me.”

When asked what keeps him here, Frank doesn’t hesitate: “Seeing people’s faces when they receive food. That moment — it’s special. I wish we had something like this when I was growing up.”

CTFB’s mission resonates deeply with Frank’s own values. “It’s a loving feeling. I’m grateful that other families can get what they need.”

Frank is known for being a generous and dependable teammate. He often goes out of his way to help others load orders or locate them in the warehouse, making a real difference for colleagues trying to stay on schedule. His willingness to lend a hand doesn’t just support the mission — it lifts the whole team.

Frank is also quick to praise the people he works with. “The culture here is different. We help each other out. You don’t see that everywhere,” he says. “If you need help, the other drivers will jump in. We’re a team.”

“Good people make a difference. It’s easy to come in when you work with folks like that.”

Frank is a steady and supportive presence at CTFB. His commitment on the road helps power our mission every day — and we’re lucky to have him behind the wheel.
