Celebrating MLK with a Day of Service

Jan17

“No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
         ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Through his work, Martin Luther King Jr., taught us that working together can make a difference. At the Food Bank, we see his words come to life every day. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Food Bank hosted a Day of Service in his honor. It was amazing to see our warehouse packed with volunteers eager to give back.

We had 148 volunteers come in for the Day of Service, including Delta Sigma Theta, St. David’s Foundation, Griffin School and VHS National Honor Society.

It was an even more exciting day for St. David’s Foundation volunteers who were volunteering for the first time in the product recovery warehouse they helped fund.

With everything from “Y.M.C.A.” to “Havana” playing in the background, volunteers danced their way through the shift. Together they helped provide 4,375 meals for Central Texans in need.

To make an even greater impact, the Delta Sigma Theta volunteers also donated $500 and helped provide 2,000 additional meals for families struggling to make ends meet.

Special thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate MLK Day with us by honoring his legacy.
