Building a Healthy Community with Foundation Communities

The Food Bank has awarded our Partner Agency, Foundation Communities, a $33,000 grant to expand their Healthy Food Pantry Project.

The funds will help Foundation Communities’ (FC) Healthy Food Pantry Project increase healthy food distribution throughout their onsite food pantries at its residential communities, which include supportive housing properties for single adults and family properties.

The grant has funded a cargo van, equipment to receive food, six cold storage units and funding for nutritional programming. Prior to acquiring the van, FC employees used their personal vehicles to pick up food, which limited the quantity and variety of food they could pick up.

Thanks to the support from the Food Bank, FC has been able to distribute 183,065 pounds of food since receiving the van in March, of which 69,760 pounds have been fresh produce. They have been able to triple the amount of produce distributed thanks to the van.
