Advocacy

Stronger policies. Stronger communities.

CTFB President speaking at City of Austin press conference

Everyone should have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. But food access is shaped by more than what is available at a pantry or grocery store. Public policy, transportation, health care, education and economic opportunity all influence whether individuals and families can consistently put food on the table.

The Central Texas Food Bank works with community partners, policymakers and advocates to strengthen the systems that support food security and address the underlying conditions that contribute to hunger.

Our Advocacy Priorities

We advocate for policies that help Central Texans access the food and resources they need today while building a stronger food system for tomorrow.

Working alongside Feeding America, Feeding Texas, community partners and state and local coalitions, we support policies that:

  • Protect and strengthen nutrition programs such as SNAP, and those supporting child nutrition programs and programs serving older adults.
  • Increase access to nutritious food, particularly for communities facing barriers to food access.
  • Strengthen our regional food system through investments in local agriculture, food supply chain infrastructure and food waste prevention.
  • Support resources for food banks and hunger-relief organizations to enhance food access.
  • Leverage research and community insight to inform policy and help decision-makers understand food insecurity in Central Texas.
