Overview:
The Volunteer Leader program engages energetic and committed volunteers in the mission of the Food Bank by serving as representatives and advocates in our community. Volunteer Leaders serve in the Food Bank’s programs by providing operational support to staff, and deliver training and stewardship to public volunteers during their shifts.
Volunteer Shifts
The Food Bank has a need for Volunteer Leaders in the following areas:
Garden
Do you want to use your green thumb to fight hunger? The Food Bank Production and Learning Garden is a 1-acre urban farm on Food Bank property. The Garden Volunteer Leader will help lead other volunteers
while gaining firsthand experience in organic gardening. Download the PDF to learn more.
Kitchen
Do you want to hone your culinary and organizational skills to fight hunger? The Food Bank kitchen is a 4200 sq. ft. commercial kitchen equipped with large-scale production equipment that we use to make meals for those in need.
The Kitchen Volunteer Leader will work with volunteers to help produce meals per day during the school year and more than 3,000 meals and snacks per day during the summer months. Download the PDF to learn more.
Warehouse
As a Warehouse Volunteer Leader, you will be instrumental in working with public volunteers to ensure all the food we distribute is safe, healthy and high quality for our clients in need. You’ll lead volunteers, helping them learn to inspect, clean, sort, box and prepare food donations to be ready for distribution to our Partner Agencies and the families they serve. Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Minimum 4-month service commitment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and on a team in fast-paced environments
- Able to attend training sessions throughout the year
- Agree to wear Food Bank Volunteer Leader t-shirt and name badge during all events
