Breastfeeding Education

Breastfeeding Education Program

The Breastfeeding Education program provides services to SNAP-eligible clients through a trained breastfeeding peer counselor.  As a mother who has personal breastfeeding experience and a passion for helping families achieve their breastfeeding goals, she provides core support during both prenatal and postpartum periods which includes group classes and one-on-one counseling.

Prenatal breastfeeding classes

These classes for families cover topics such as getting a free breast pump from their insurance provider, the benefits of breastfeeding for at least a year and tips for talking with their employer about expressing milk when returning to work.

What is breastfeeding counseling?

Breastfeeding counseling provides one-on-one breastfeeding support through observation while breastfeeding, hands-on assistance of mother and baby including positioning and latching baby comfortably among other supportive methods.  These supportive measures help moms build their confidence and reach their breastfeeding goals.  Services can be provided through phone, email, and/or a home visit.
