Fight Hunger During Hunger Action Month

Sep01

Hunger Action Month in September raises awareness and mobilizes the public to take action on the issues of hunger. In Central Texas, one in six individuals face hunger and one in five kids don’t know where their next meal will come from. That’s why we’re asking you to take action to fight hunger. Here are some easy and delicious ways to make a difference during Hunger Action Month:

Snooze Bacon Day

Celebrate Bacon Day on September 1! What better way to celebrate than by giving back. On this day, Snooze Eatery North and South Lamar will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Food Bank. To make it even more special, they’ll be unveiling three, bacon inspired dishes for the day and having a contest to win a year’s worth of Tender Belly bacon. Get more information on how to win the bacon here.

Austin Beerworks Special Brew

Join us for Austin Beerworks' release of a new beer called Scully Effect on September 8. The  beer has been brewed in collaboration with the Central Texas Food Bank's nutrition manager. For every purchase of the beer, $1 will be donated to the Food Bank.

Beer Yoga at the Jackalope

Do you like free yoga and beer? Bell’s Brewery is hosting a fun yoga class at the Jackalope South Shore, benefiting the Food Bank, on Sunday, September 9. Bring healthy, nonperishable food items to receive a free beer from Bell’s Brewery as you enjoy the yoga class!

Taste of East Austin Festival & 5K

The Taste of East Austin Festival & 5K takes you around the Whisper Valley community and ends at the finish line with a complimentary beer. All participants will receive an event swag bag, t-shirt and finishers medal.  To participate in the 5K, purchase tickets here.

The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with live music, local artisans and boutiques and plenty of food and cocktails from East Austin restaurants and food trucks. Culinary demonstrations will occur throughout the day featuring East Austin culinary experts. The festival is free and family friendly. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The event will be at Whisper Valley on Saturday, September 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Food Bank.
