The Central Texas Food Bank is seeking six AmeriCorps State and National service members to support the Child Hunger Strategy Team in administering the Children’s Summer Meal Programs: Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and BackPack Program. The ideal candidate for this position is focused, hard-working, an excellent communicator, and is dedicated to the mission of the Food Bank: To nourish hungry people and lead the community in the fight against hunger.
Timeframe: This position is a 300-hour service commitment spanning no more than 10 weeks, from May 29, 2018, to August 9, 2018. Service members work 35-40 hours/week to meet their 300-hour requirement.
AmeriCorps State and National Member Duties:
The Children's Programs State and National Member will serve with the Child Hunger Strategy Team at the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin for ten weeks between May and August. They will support the day-to-day operations of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and BackPack Program. The Summer Food Service Program provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to help children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow. The BackPack program provides hungry children with nutritious and easy-to-prepare foods to meet their weekend food need.
The State and National Members will support SFSP and BackPack Program operations by contributing to in-house meal preparation. State and National Members will be responsible for monitoring sites for compliance with program requirements set by the US Department of Agriculture. State and National Members may present nutrition activities to children in collaboration with the Central Texas Food Bank nutrition education team and the Child Hunger Strategy Team and will help ensure the overall quality of the program.
